Evenings in Playa Blanca have a rhythm all their own, and once you fall into step with it you understand why so many people come back. This isn’t a big, brash party resort, and most nights here unfold slowly and pleasantly, from a sundowner by the water to a long dinner, a bit of music and a starlit wander home. But it’s not without a livelier side either, with a couple of late bars that keep going until the early hours for those who want them.

An evening in Playa Blanca begins, more often than not, with the sky. The resort faces south and west across the water to Fuerteventura, so the sunsets here are genuinely lovely, and the done thing is to be somewhere with a view and a drink in hand as the light goes golden. Down at Marina Rubicón, the cluster of bars and cocktail lounges around the harbour is the prime spot for this, terraces looking out over the yachts, the water turning pink, and the outline of Fuerteventura and Los Lobos on the horizon.
The cocktails here are properly made and taken seriously, and there’s plenty of local La Geria wine if you’d rather, so it’s worth arriving early enough to catch the light and easing into the evening slowly. This first hour, drink in hand, sun going down, is Playa Blanca nightlife at its most quintessential.

Here, more than in the livelier resorts, dinner is the main event of the night rather than a pit stop before it. The Spanish eat late, so restaurants tend to come alive from around eight or nine, and the whole evening is built around a relaxed, unhurried meal with no need to be anywhere afterwards. Where you eat sets the mood: fresh fish at a seafront table in the old town, something smarter among the yachts at the marina, or an easy family spot in between.
Many restaurants, particularly around Marina Rubicón, lay on live music while you dine, an acoustic guitarist or a singer in the background, which quietly turns a good meal into a proper night out. It’s worth asking when you book whether there’s music on, and worth booking at all in peak season, as the best tables go.
Playa Blanca Live Music
Once dinner drifts to a close, the evening settles into its warmest stretch, roughly half nine to eleven, when the bars are busy and the music is going. Playa Blanca does live music well and in keeping with its character: not loud tribute acts, but acoustic performers, jazz, Spanish guitar and mellow covers, spread across the marina and the town through the week. This is also the point in the night where the resort quietly offers something for every mood. Fancy a proper pint and the football? There are Irish and British bars and sports pubs for that.
There’s a good selection of karaoke bars where you can have a good sing-song to your favourite tunes or maybe you just fancy another good cocktail somewhere calm? The marina lounges and wine bars have you covered. Nothing is far from anything else so it’s a gentle stroll from one bar to the next, and families are welcome in most places earlier on before the evening mellows into adult company.
Playa Blanca Nightclubs
Playa Blanca might be the calm choice, but it’s not entirely early to bed, and if you fancy dancing there are a couple of late spots that keep going until dawn. The best known is Waikiki Bar, up in the Centro Comercial Papagayo, widely regarded as the place to party in the resort. It’s open seven nights a week from around 8pm into the early hours, with DJs most nights spinning everything from the latest hits to old anthems, a big outdoor terrace, cocktails, shots and shisha, and a proper dancefloor when you want one.
Havana Club, in the same late-night part of town, is another option for carrying on past midnight. It’s a far cry from the club strips of the bigger resorts, and this is only ever a small, contained slice of Playa Blanca’s night rather than its main event, but it does mean you can round off dinner and drinks with a proper dance if the mood takes you, without having to leave the resort. Head towards the Papagayo centre and along the Avenida Marítima and you’ll find the later end of the night gathered around there.

The End Of The Evening
However you spend the evening, one of the nicest ways to end it is a walk along the seafront promenade. It runs the length of the resort, from the lighthouse in the west to the marina in the east, and it’s flat, quiet and lovely after dark, with the sea on one side and the bars behind you. Take your time, and stroll it back to bed.
And if you’ve had one too many to fancy the walk, there’s no problem getting a taxi, with ranks in the main town and outside the Papagayo centre where taxis are usually plentiful, even late on. On a warm night, though, that walk is hard to beat.
